PETA, an organization focused on the defense and protection of animals, requested the International Olympic Committee to remove from their competitions any sports with horses. During the last Tokyo Olympic Games, Kim Raisner, a pentathlon coach, punched a horse. She wanted to help as the horse wasn’t cooperating with Annika Schleu during the jumping competition. The images went viral and PETA is now raising a complaint to ban horse sports from the Olympics.

The Olympic Games keep being trending
The Olympic Games finished already, but they are still in all the headers. PETA sent a formal announcement to Tomas Bach, the current president of the International Olympic Committee. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals expect a positive reply from the Olympics organization. Part of the announcement said:
“Just as the Olympics evolved to include sports that are of current interest – like skateboarding, surfing, and sport climbing – in a world that increasingly refuses to accept abuse in any form, it’s time to remove sports that are no longer supported by the public.”
Kim Raisner’s punch over Saint Boy
Regarding Kim Raisner’s punch to the horse during the games, it had its consequences. The German trainer was taken out of the Olympics bubble after her actions over Saint Boy, the affected horse. Additionally, during the cross-country course, the Swiss horse Jet Set got injured. The vets said that it was an “irreparable ligament rupture in the lower right limb” and the decision was to put the horse to sleep.
It is a hard situation for both parties as horse racing has been one of the most traditional and popular sports for many years. For those reasons, PETA is raising its voice to stop animals suffering in the Olympic Games. For the moment, the COI hasn’t replied to PETA’s announcement.
