Elitloppet, race of the weekend in Europe

Elitloppet is one of the most important races of the year with the Grand Prix of America and the Hambletonian. It is a horse-drawn trotting race taking place in Sweden at the Solvalla Racecourse.

Created in 1952, it is an international event of Group I for 4 years old and more horses which runs in May on a distance of 1609 meters, with an auto-start departure. It was formally a stage of the European Grand Trot Tour before its abolishment in 2012. The race takes place in two stages, just like the Grand Prix of the Italian Lottery: two qualifying batteries and then the big final with the best 4 horses of each battery.
